The Modular Journal has been established with the objective of providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of academic studies from a range of disciplines, which employ scientific methods to generate new data in the fields of art, design and architecture. The journal disseminates these studies to the wider academic community. The Modular Journal, published by Istanbul Gedik University's Faculty of Architecture and Design, is accessible online in accordance with national and international accessibility standards. The journal publishes original, peer-reviewed studies with the objective of creating a platform for the dissemination of institutional knowledge in the fields of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Visual Communication Design, Industrial Design and Design, and for researchers in these fields to access high-quality, relevant articles.
The Modular Journal is the official publication of Istanbul Gedik University's Faculty of Architecture and Design. It publishes original research articles, abstracts of research, reviews of books, and discussions and opinions on current topics related to architecture, art, and design. The journal gives priority to research articles.
The following rules must be adhered to in the preparation of articles.
The article must be submitted in accordance with the prescribed template, which can be accessed here.
Manuscripts should be prepared in accordance with the following guidelines. The word count should not exceed 6,000, inclusive of the abstract, figures and tables, and references. The word count for opinion and research abstracts should be between 2,000 and 2,500 words. It is imperative that any text requiring emphasis be italicised, rather than presented in bold or single quotation marks. Furthermore, the use of both italics and single quotation marks is inadvisable. Manuscripts should be uploaded to the DergiPark system in the Microsoft Word format.
Images should be included in the manuscript, in accordance with the aforementioned guidelines. The nomenclature of the images included in the manuscript should adhere to the established conventions for figures and charts. The editorial board of the journal reserves the right to request the removal of technically problematic or low-quality image files, or to remove them completely from the article. The author(s) are responsible for ensuring the quality of any images used as a source and for determining whether or not they are to be published.
The number of pages on which figures, charts and illustrations are used should not exceed 10, and the area they occupy should not exceed one-third of the manuscript.
It is not permissible to use footnotes for referencing purposes; they should be used solely for explanatory supplementary information. Furthermore, automatic numbering must be employed. In order to demonstrate references in footnotes, in-text citation methods must be utilised.
The Modular Journal's objective is to establish a forum for interdisciplinary academic research that generates new data in a range of design disciplines, particularly in the areas of architecture, interior architecture, urban design, visual communication design and industrial product design. It also aims to contribute to scientific knowledge through the dissemination of these research findings. It is of the utmost importance that scientific studies prepared in accordance with this goal comply with the relevant ethical principles.
These ethical principles have been formulated in accordance with the guidelines and policies established by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and made available in open access. A selection of these principles is presented below, and it is recommended that they be adopted by relevant stakeholders.
It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that any articles submitted to Modular Journal are original works related to one or more of the following disciplines: architecture, urban design, interior architecture, visual communication design, industrial design and other design disciplines.
All sources utilised in the articles (authors, online pages, personal interviews, etc.) must be indicated in accordance with the procedure set forth in the writing rules.
It should be stated that the articles submitted to the journal have not been submitted to another journal, and the Copyright Transfer Form prepared by Modular Journal should be completed.
The editorial board of our journal does not impose any fees for the evaluation and publication of submitted articles.
