The Concept of Synesthesia (Multisensory Perception) in Spatial Experience and Investigation of its Change with Technology

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: Özel Sayı, 40 - 59, 30.04.2022
https://doi.org/10.30785/mbud.1020096

Abstract

The process of perception includes comprehending an object, situation or place by internalizing and interpreting it through our senses. Synesthesia refers to the phenomenon where stimulation of one sense mode causes a sensation in another sense mode. The subject has also been brought to the agenda with the work of theorists who produce ideas on perception, sensation, the concept of atmosphere and multi-sensory experiences. Along with the concepts of virtualization, smart systems and artificial intelligence, the way we perceive, experience and sense space is also changing and transforming. The aim of this study is to discuss the situation that multi-sensory experience spaces have emerged with technological developments. The method of the study was determined as an analysis on different multi-sensory space examples created with technological possibilities. Six studies were selected, in which the keywords "multi-sensory space experience", "synesthesia" and "synesthetic space" were repeated the most. When the contents of the samples were analyzed, it was seen that the use of digital technologies and the manipulation of perception were effective on the sense of time-space. In addition, it has been concluded that synesthetic approaches have the potential to reveal new forms of perception and experience.

Mekânsal Deneyimlerde Sinestezi (Çoklu Duyusal Algı) Kavramı ve Teknolojiyle Değişiminin İncelenmesi

Year 2022, Volume: 7 Issue: Özel Sayı, 40 - 59, 30.04.2022
https://doi.org/10.30785/mbud.1020096
